White Dolomite is an elegant, naturally stark white anhydrous carbonate mineral of calcium magnesium carbonate that can be found in two different layers of the earth. It can be found as a sedimentary rock, which means it was formed on the surface of the earth. Dolomite also forms as a metamorphic mineral found as the principal mineral in dolostones and metadolostones.

Dolomite is a common stone that can be found all over the world, specifically in regions with sedimentary basins - which are warm, shallow marine areas where calcium carbonate mud accumulates in the form of shell debris, coral fragments and carbonate precipitates. An example of this are the Dolomite Alps in Italy from which Dolomite was first discovered and named after in 1791 by Deodat de Dolomieu and was first described as a mineral in 1792 by Swiss naturalist Nicholas de Saussure.

Along with Calcite and Aragonite this sedimentary mineral makes up about 2% of the earth’s crust. Dolomite is found in many different forms such as limestone, Dolostone and can occur in the rare igneous rock known as dolomite carbonatite. The main difference between these different types of dolomite is the way it formed and the density of each stone. Limestone being one of the lightest densities of a dolomite mineral.
